"It's strange isn't it? That we can never remember our dreams." Naila sighed.

The sun was setting, casting an orange glow into the room. "Maybe there just isn't anything to remember."

Naila looked at her brother, a slight frown on her face. "What, you don't care?"

"Why should I," Jase sat on his bed. "Dreams will get you no where."

Naila looked back to the setting sun. "Well I like to dream. I just wish I could remember them."

Jase climbed under the blanket. "Just go to sleep, Naila."

Naila covered herself up and laid her head down. Jase reached over and turned off the lamp that sat between them. Naila yawned and rolled over, quickly falling asleep. Jase lay awake, staring up at the ceiling. The white bedroom walls were dark with nightly shadows. The sounds of the Chicago night were echoing outside. He rolled over to face the wall. He hated sleeping. His dreams were never something he wanted to remember.

...

"No! Please!"

Jase watched with wide eyes as the dark haired woman cowered in the corner. Tears streaked her face and she held her arms out in front of her.

"Please! I won't tell the cops! Just leave!"

Jase looked behind him. A tall man was advancing on the woman. Jase stepped back. In this man's hand was a large kitchen knife. The woman's eyes were glued to it. Jase realized with a stomach turning feeling that he was going to witness this woman's murder. He looked back at her. She must have realized it too, for she had given up on begging and was now sobbing uncontrollably.

Jase looked away as the man plunged the knife into her chest over and over. When he heard the clink of a knife hitting the floor, he looked back. The man shakily got to his feet. He was covered in blood. It was dripping from his shirt and hands, leaving a trail of tiny red droplets as he walked. Jase watched as he picked his coat up, slipped it on and walked out the door.

...

"Jase, honey, are you alright?"

Jase opened his eyes to be greeted by his mother's concerned face. "Huh?"

"I asked if you wre alright. You were mumbling and tossing all over. Did you have another nightmare?"

"Um...it was just an unplesant dream mom."

His mother reached out stroked his hair. "Well, you have an appointment with Dr. Hale tommorrow. Tell him about this."

"Mom, I hate going to that shrink. I don't have a problem."

"You've been having nightmares for ten years now. I consider that a problem. Now, try and go back to sleep and we'll talk in the morning." She kissed his forehead. "I love you."

"Yeah, you too, mom."

She left the room and closed the door. Jase lay back down but didn't fall asleep. He couldn't bring himself to close his eyes. Everytime he did, he saw the woman's mutilated face.
